How long does it take to get a book after I request it through MeLCat?

The typical wait time for a MeLCat item to arrive is three to four days. It could be slightly shorter or longer than that, however.

Is there a way to check the status of my MeLCat order?

You can check your MeLCat requests at MyMeLCat. You may also ask a staff person in-person at the checkout desk on the 2nd floor, or call (616) 526-7197.

Can I reserve a study room for a day or more?

If you want a study room for more than the normal period (maximum of 4 hours per day), please contact the Dean of the Library, David Malone.

Where are the restrooms (bathrooms)?

There are restrooms (bathrooms) on every floor. The 2nd floor has a unisex restroom and men's and women's restrooms. 3rd floor has only a women's restroom. 4th floor has a men's restroom and a unisex/single user restroom. On 5th floor there are both men's and women's restrooms.

Where can I get help with genealogical records and family history?

Heritage Hall specializes in the history of the Dutch in Michigan. It is on the library's 2nd (main) floor. You can search the collections online as well as ask for help from staff. In addition, you can consult the Hekman Digital Archive for photographs of Michigan communities

What can I do when a book is checked out?

You can first check the due date. You can also check for additional copies in the Hekman catalog. If there are none available, you can search MeLCat and request it through that system. If not in MeLCat, fill out an interlibrary loan request for your book. This may take a bit longer to arrive than ordering through MeLCat.

How do I search for the title of a book?

Go to the library catalog and change "Keyword" to "Title" in the drop-down menu on the left.

My document isn't printing. What can I do?

Where is the Meeter Center?

The H. Henry Meeter Center for Calvin Studies (official name; sometimes shortened to "Meeter Center) is on the 4th floor near the theological librarians' offices.

Where are the new books?

New books are on display on the 2nd floor on a small bookshelf until they get checked out for the first time. New books for the seminary, call numbers BL to BX, are on a shelf on the 4th floor outside of the Meeter Center.


Is the library open on Sundays?

Who is the Dean (Director) of the Library?

Who is the librarian for religion (or nursing, education, English, etc.)?

How long can I check out a book?

Our policies state that Calvin students may check books out for two weeks at a time (and can renew them to keep them longer). Graduate and seminary students may keep books for six weeks, PhD students for six months, faculty and staff for six months, and alumni and guests for two weeks. 

When are librarians at the Research Desk?

Where is the Career Center?

The Career Center main office is off of the large library lobby (with the fireplace) on the 3rd floor of the library building. The office number is HL372.

How many times may I renew an item?

While it varies by patron and item type, most library users may renew books as much as needed. This chart explains renewals for each patron group and special collection.

Can I print without my Calvin ID card?

2021: we recommend that you have your Calvin ID card to release print jobs either at an MFD (multifunctional device) or a laser printer. The new printing system is called PaperCut (Instructions). The PaperCut Quckstart guide might be helpful.

When is the CIT Help Desk staffed?
